Redlands Parks

Parks Division maintains 14 established parks with over 143 acres of land, and all median islands along City streets. They also maintain the grounds surrounding a number of City facilities such as the Civic Center.

The following developed parks are owned and operated by the City of Redlands.

Brookside Park, a 9.2 acre neighborhood park with picnic and playground facilities. The park is located on Brookside Avenue between Terracina Boulevard and Bellevue Avenue.

Caroline Park Entry Monument

Caroline Park, a 16.8 acre nature park with trails and open space planted with native California plants and a water conservation garden. The park is located at Mariposa Drive and Dwight Street .

Community Park, an 18.2 acre park with lighted baseball fields, tennis courts, picnic and playground facilities. The park is located at San Bernardino Avenue and Church Street.

Crafton Playground

Crafton Park, a 7.5 acre neighborhood park with lighted soccer field, picnic and playground facilities. The park is located at Wabash Avenue and Independence Avenue.

Ed Hales Park, a 0.7 acre downtown park with picnic facilities. The park is located in the downtown central business district at State Street and Fifth Street.

Jennie Davis Park, a 5.2 acre neighborhood park with picnic and playground facilities. The park is located at Redlands Boulevard and New York Street.

Ford Pond

Ford Park, a 27 acre park with two ponds for fishing, lighted tennis courts, picnic and playground facilities. The park is located at Redlands Boulevard and Ford Street.

Franklin Park, a 0.6 acre natural open space area. The park is located at Garden Street and Franklin Avenue.

Prospect Upper Garden

Prospect Park, an 11.4 acre natural park with trails and picnic facilities. The park contains the Avice Meeker Sewall Theater, an outdoor amphitheater with seating for 407. The theater is home to the Redlands Summer Theater Festival. The park is located at Cajon Street and Highland Avenue.

Redlands Sports Park: Phase I is a 35-acre site located at the northeast corner of Dearborn Street and San Bernardino Avenue. It is scheduled to be open for soccer activity in early 2008. This phase includes 8 full-sized soccer fields with lighting and a basketball court. Off-street parking is accessible from Dearborn Street north of San Bernardino Avenue. The facility is reserved for scheduled soccer activity. Future phases are in the construction planning stage and will include 4 additional lighted soccer fields, 15 acres of open field and recreational space, and a softball complex.

Sewall Theater

San Timoteo Canyon Nature Preserve, a 40 acre natural preserve facility. The preserve is located in San Timoteo Canyon near Fern Avenue.

Simond's Parkway, a 0.9 acre neighborhood park. The park is located at Garden Street and Rossmont Drive.

Redlands Bowl

Smiley Park, a 9.2 acre park at the Redlands Civic Center. This park is home to A. K. Smiley Public Library, a facility listed on the National Register of Historic Places; the Lincoln Shrine, containing the largest collection of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia west of the Mississippi River; and the Redlands Bowl, an outdoor amphitheater with seating for approximately 4,000 persons where summer concerts are performed each Tuesday and Friday evening during July and August. The park is located at Eureka Street south of Vine Street.

Sylvan Gazebo

Sylvan Park, a 23.3 acre park with softball field, group and individual picnic areas and playground facilities. The historic Mill Creek Zanja flows through the park. Sylvan Park is the home of the Redlands Fourth of July programs. The park is located immediately west of the University of Redlands at Colton Avenue and University Street.

Texonia Park, a 10.7 acre neighborhood park with lighted softball field, basketball courts, picnic and playground facilities. The park is located at Lugonia Avenue and Texas Street.

MEASURE "O" - Open Space Bond Measure
In 1987, the citizens of Redlands passed a $7.2 million bond issue called "Measure "O." The money was designated for the purchase of land for parks, recreation, citrus preservation and open space, but did not include the development of the property. A citizen's group was appointed to an Open Space Committee which met regularly for nearly five years to review all possible land acquisitions and make recommendations to the City Council for their final approval.

In 1999, the last purchase of open space land was made to complete acquisitions under the Measure "O" Program.
