Use Water Wisely! Every Drop Counts
By following these helpful tips, you can save thousands of gallons of water every year in your home or business. Click here to find out more!
- Check for leaks. A leaky commode can waste more than 50 gallons a day. Place a little food coloring in your toilet tank and if it seeps down to the bowl you could have a leak.
- Don't use your toilet as a wastebasket or ashtray.
- Use a full basin for your shave and a quick rinse for your teeth.
- Wash dishes only once a day by running only full loads in the dishwasher.
- Before using the washing machine, check to see that you have enough dirty clothes for a full wash. Washing machines use 30 to 50 gallons per wash.
- Avoid running the tap for a cold drink. Chill a full pitcher of water and keep it in the refrigerator.
- Water the lawn sparingly. Studies show that a majority of lawns are over watered. Sprinkle for same period of time but less often.
- Don't scalp your grass by cutting it too short. The roots will lose their shade and need more water.
- When mowing the lawn, leave cuttings on the lawn. This keeps the lawn from drying out.
- Use a rake instead of a hose to remove leaves from driveway.
- Wash the car with a bucket of water instead of a hose. Practice turning off the hose when soaping the car.
- Cover the swimming pool because water evaporates faster from an open pool.
- Furnish your garden with plants that require minimum amounts of water. Many beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees require little moisture.
- You can save eight (8) gallons of water by soaping only once when shampooing.
- Make sure your sprinklers and hose system is adjusted to water just your lawn and garden, not the sidewalk!
